Ganesh Lath belongs to the business community of Nepal.
A Karate Black Belt in his younger days, he now loves to practice Vipasana meditation.
Ganesh has been writing for the last three decades. ANURADHA BHAVAN was first published, in the Nepalese language, in Nepal. His other published works are Chhammiya and Aghatit (satirical novel). His next book, Chhamadaan, is in the process of being published.
1. Who and what inspired you to write?
It is a very difficult question to answer. Although I started reading approximately at the age of 13 but my mind always created its own unintended stories since I can remember. A connection to my created characters started taking shape after I read books of Bed Prakash Sharma, Karnal Ranjit, Om Prakash Sharma & Gulshan Nanda. It was difficult for me pen my thoughts into a story. Gradually, my reading interest moved towards the book written by Munsi Premchand, Hajari Prasad Dwedi and Faneswar Das Renu etc. I wrote some poems and articles in Nepali and Hindi as my stream of thoughts started flowing. In the later phase, I came across the books written by Dr. Taslima Nasrin, Sudha Murthy and Khuswant Singh. I believe these authors and their skill of expression sublimely inspired me to write.
2. What challenges did you face while writing and getting published?
Sketching the outline of the story in my mind came easy but “How and where to start from” was the serious challenge for me. I searched for implacable answers on google search, contacted a few authors known to me. But I could not find a proper answer that could nearly solve my problem. It was a bigger complication than finding a decent time to right out of my work and family. Eventually, I completed the first manuscript starting from the cremation place and ending at the same.
Being the first one to write professionally in my family and friends, every step ahead was unknown and complicated. It was very challenging to get a reply from the publishers I reached out to. Ultimately, after a very long haul, Lipi Prakashan, Kathmandu, Nepal, trusted my story and lend their hand forward.
I was still a learner, when my readers suggested me to publish Anuradha Bhawan in English language to expend it’s readership out of Nepal. In those days publishers were not very keen on publishing a fiction novel in English. I was overwhelmed to find a renowned author-Mahesh Paudel, who agreed to beautifully translate my book in English and I could trust him with my story.
I faced an even bigger challenge to find a publisher in India. After reaching out to approx. 50 publishers, only few of them replied, that too with a note of apology. Some of who agreed, had unacceptable conditions after which I came in contact with The books Bakers as a literary agent and shook hands with them.
3. How did you come to know about the literary agency THE BOOK BAKERS?
I was researching all the suitable publishers in India through google. Fortunately, I was able to get details about The Book Bakers and fell comfortable with their process. Being totally unaware about the role of literary agent, it took a few rounds of talk with Mr. Suhail Mathur to learn the real process of publishing in India.
4. How did THE BOOK BAKERS help you and what would you like to say about them?
The Book Bakers acknowledged my email with my first three chapters, synopsis and a small introduction of me and asked me to share the complete manuscript. TBB took a couple of months to review my story and later committed to support me.
They helped me with content editing, designing a very relevant cover page and finding a respected publisher. In addition, Suhail Mathur directed and supported me in finalization of terms and conditions with the publisher Locksley Hall Publishing.
5. How supportive is your publisher of your work?
They are very professional, precise and punctual in their practice.
6. How do you see literary success for yourself?
As someone said, “to achieve something, you first need to start dreaming about it at the daytime with wide open eyes”. I started my literary journey with the same and later put an action to it. I was not very experienced in writing but was highly ambitious. With a lot of ups and downs along with some bends and curves, I stumbled but didn’t stop my journey.
When my first book got published, it didn’t get enough readership. However, It helped me collect a lot of constructive comments and appeared as a key to open the door of success in the field of writing.
My second book- Chhamiya (Collection of Satirical Stories/ Nepalese Language) got huge acceptability in the market. Readers started acknowledging my writing and started sharing their love. My third book- Aghatit (Satirical Novel/Nepalese Language) finally provided me the identity of respected Author. It was overwhelming, when a renowned Social Organization, Chitwan Sahitya Parishad awarded my third book. I still consider myself as a learner and the process of writing itself is a success for me.
7. When can we expect your next book?
My fourth book- Kshamadaan (Fiction- Nepalese Language) is due to get published within couple of weeks.
The manuscript of my fifth book is in final stage. Hoping, it will be published within this year.
As far as book publishing in India is concerned, Aghatit is in process of translation from Nepalese Language to English. As soon as it is completed, I will put it forward to TBB and ask for their guidance in the same.
8. How has your experience being working with Locksley Hall Publishing ?
My experience has been very advantageous as I have learnt a lot of things from them in this process and I hope I have been able to profit them in slightest of manner.

9. Any message or tips for aspiring authors?
I would encourage them to start writing without caring much about what seems odd or ugly, obscured or clumsy. Just continue writing and reading.
Read other’s writing and your own writing as a reader as much as possible. Never hesitate to make a change, crop or alter what you have written until it makes sense. If any idea or theme clicks your mind, don’t wait for anything and note it down immediately, even if you are half asleep or in the bathroom. It has worked pretty well for me and I hope more can benefit from this.
